About Us

Overview

Coastal Watch Association was founded through the collective efforts of residents in Ingleside on the Bay who came together to protect their community from harmful industrial development. What began as a grassroots effort to safeguard their neighborhood grew into a broader mission to protect the entire Coastal Bend, rooted in the belief that clean air, clean water, and safe coastlines are rights every community deserves.

Through continued dedication, CWA has developed a strong scientific, legal, and community-driven approach to environmental protection. By combining data collection, research-based analysis, and public engagement, we work to ensure that industrial development is held to the highest standards of environmental responsibility and public safety.

Most recently, through coordinated community advocacy supported by scientific data and regulatory engagement, CWA helped prevent the construction of a multi-billion-dollar ammonia facility proposed near a local elementary school—an outcome that protected residents, wildlife, and the fragile Gulf Coast ecosystem.

Coastal Watch Association supports responsible economic development that is transparent, properly regulated, and protective of community health. By continuing to hold industries accountable and advocating for communities that are often underrepresented in decision-making processes, we aim to help set a higher standard for environmental stewardship in our region.

The Coastal Bend is one of South Texas’ greatest natural treasures. CWA remains committed to protecting it for our communities today and for future generations.
